New Blog, New Me!
Hello World!
As I write this, it's January 2, 2026. A brand new year, one that will be filled with challenges and change. Probably more of each that I want, and most assuredly more than I've faced in a while. I think it's safe to say that, unfortunately, that's true for many of us.
But, as they say: New Year, New Me. But who is Me? That's the question.
So, who am I?
Well, you can call me Dunny. That's not my legal name, but that's close enough to who I am that it doesn't really matter. I'm just as much me online as I am offline, regardless of what handle I'm going by.
My pronouns are He/Him.
I'm a multidisciplinary security professional by trade, and ethical hacker by nature. Professionally I've spend the better part of a decade tracking and implementing detections for nation state APT groups, while also sharing information on how to protect the data we care for the most with pretty much anyone I can. I've also dabbled in counter terrorism and insider threat - mostly on the tracking end, occasionally detecting.
But that's boring. What do I do for fun? What makes me happy?
Like many GenX nerds, I like Star Trek, The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, Red Dwarf, and video games. Big fan of the Nintendo properties, also really like the Halos. Fallout, and other really large open world games, are things I spend hours just exploring. I love me some environmental story telling.
I spend time at my local library. Sometimes it's reading, sometimes it's job hunting, sometimes it's just to go someplace quiet for a while.
I still roll with a Zune in my pocket because I like listening to the radio. Sure, I could do it over an app but it doesn't have that same feel. Which is probably why although I do use emulators of all sorts to play old video games, I also have era appropriate hardware for some of those games.
I love the ideas behind the Silent Hill game series, even if I may not have actually completed them all. I own them, and I've played them, but I haven't always finished them. Same with the Parasite Eve series. Love the story, the game play (of the first two) but I never seem to actually finish them.
So who am I?
I'm Dunny, just a guy on the internet.
