For some weird reason, I seem to be reduced to doing posts only about my weekends. I may have to try and write something else this week – but, until I do, here’s another Weekend Update.

Friday
Meet up with Nadia at her place, tried to fix her laptop – the sound has gone out. Made very little headway… Just enough to ensure that it’s not a problem with the volume turned way down… Didn’t think it was, but one must always be thorough when trying to fix something.

We went to Town Square, bought tickets for the movie we were going to see (Max Payne) and then headed to Kabuki, a quasi-Japanese restaurant. We had some sushi (kinda blah), she had the fried pork (pretty damn tasty), and I had the mixed beef/chicken hotplate (nummy). We talked and joked the whole time, was very nice.

After dinner, we walked over to Borders to kill some time – the movie wasn’t set to start for another hour and change… I picked up a couple of things, and Nadia bought me House of Leaves.

We grabbed a coffee (Well, she had a maple something or other, I had a chai something or other), I played with my new Zombie flash cards, then we went to see the movie. I’ll talk about the movie later, it actually should get a post of it’s own…

After the movie we were both pretty tired (was a bit after 1am), so I took her home, I went home and that was that.

Weekend Update
A day late, sure – but I was a bit sick yesterday. Sue me.

Friday
In the evening Nadia came over, and thus did the Great Weekend begin.
We watched the last three episodes of Doctor Who – Season Two (Fear Her, Army of Ghosts, Doomsday) while eating wings from WingStop (Hot and Lemon Pepper for me, BBQ and Teriyaki for her). There were some tears (Rose! :( ), but all in all it was a good night. We followed it up with some LittleBigPlanet beta, which was also good times.

We also had ice-cream! She kept accusing me of reading her mind, but I think that maybe we were just in sync… :D

Tonight Nadia and I went to In & Out, then watched a movie and spent sometime hanging out in the park at Town Square.

Good times…

The movie we saw was “Burn after Reading”, the new Cohen Brothers movie.
OMFG it was hilarious… A sort of mad-cap zany farce thing, based around the CIA (kinda) and people generally being douche bags to one another… Bad Pitt was amazing in it. I had no idea he could be that damn funny, but he was. The rest of the cast was also pretty damn stellar, but Pitt was the stand out for me.

While we were leaving the theater, who should I see in the hall but Penn (of Penn and Teller), talking to his friends about how he, also, enjoyed the movie. I had no idea just how fucking tall Penn was, but dude is huge. Like, Big McLargehuge huge… All hair and biker leathers and shit – big, intimidating dude.

Needless to say, I did not walk up and ask for any sort of autograph. I would expect he’d saw me in half with his laser eyes or something.

We (Nadia and I, not Penn and I) then walked over to Borders to get something to drink, and to look at the comics. Did I mention that Nadia is awesome? Cause she is. We looked at some comics, and some manga – turns out we both like Vampire Knight, and she had pegged me as someone who would like All Star Superman.

Then we sat on the “lawn” for about an hour, just talking about stuff – all sorts of stuff – having a very relaxed evening. Before things were done, we got yelled at by a security guard for having the audacity to use the public restrooms to pee in.

The scandal! Peeing in a public restroom!

All in all, a damn good night.

Kirk, Spock, McCoy and The Rest

Kirk, Spock, McCoy and The Rest

It was 42 years ago today that a man with a tan, his green blooded wingman and a cussing country doctor took to the skies and brought down a salt sucking alien.

That’s right, 42 years ago today Star Trek first showed up on the airwaves, paving the way for Americans of all ages to enjoy hammy acting, cheap sets and more smarm than ever thought possible.

So, if you’re in the Las Vegas area, why not join me tonight at Qua-
Oh, right.

And now I’m sad.

Happy Birthday Federation, now try not to suck too hard in the new movie.

There are a few things on needs before being able to use the Netflix Watch Instantly feature on their Mac:

  • A copy of Windows
  • Patience

Which of those two do you suppose I am not known for having?

Other than a few mild issues with the quality of the video due to buffering and home-network issues that seemed to be resolved by simply allowing the movie to play for a few minutes, and a few technical problems caused by not having Windows updated correctly because I use a fucking Mac, I didn’t have any major issues getting this working.

What I managed to take away from this is a renewed enthusiasm for the Netflix service, and a burning desire for the damn XBox update to happen sooner.
