Spending my free time either playing Star Trek Online, or… Well, playing Star Trek Online. Nadia and I still go out and do things, like see Blue Man Group or watch movies, or maybe even just walk around Town Square, but mostly I’m playing STO. I’m trying not to get hooked, but I think I’m failing.

I want to get back into writing again, either short stories or maybe a more reliable comic. I’ve got my fancy tablet, and I think I might even have just enough talent to make it on the internets, but it’s the ideas I’m running low on.

I’m reading more, although there’s not been anything that’s grabbed my attention like the Percy Jackson series in a little while. I think I’m nearing time for my semi-annual Hitch-Hiker’s Guide re-read, and that’s always fun.

Today was one of those days – the day we wrote The Greatest Movie Ever Made

So, President Sam Jackson teams up with former football star turned demolitions expert Bruce Willis and Ron Perlman – a doctor of some sort, maybe physics – to destroy an asteroid which is headed towards Earth.

“I swore a motherfucking oath to protect this motherfucking country, and not one damn one of you motherfuckers are going to keep me from blowing that motherfucking asteroid out of the motherfucking sky!”

Meanwhile, scientist Milla Jovovich has discovered that the real reason the terrorists (headed by Sparkels and Zach Quinto) bombed the asteroid to make it hit Earth is because it emits a particular radiation (T-Waves) which creates zombies.

She teams up with her kid sister, Megan Fox and and ex-Army Ranger (Kurt Russel) to fight the zombie meance *and* ultra-terrorist organization

Along the way they meet a man with a plan to cure the zombies (Bruce Campbell) – with chainsaws and boomsticks.

Things go wrong, and the asteroid isn’t fully destoryed! But, Bruce Willis has a plan – They steer the damn rock towards the terrorists headquarters (Deadly Volcano Island) – where, coincidentally, the zombies have been herded!

BA-DA-BOOM!

Our surviving heroes surf the resulting tsunami wave to D.C.

The End

This movie would, of course, be the greatest film ever made. It would also be the second to last film ever made (the last being the Bollywood musical adaptation), because after this no other movie would ever need to be made – nothing could ever hope to be as awesome and epic as this.

It would be a true Wyld Stallyn moment, ushering in an era of peace that humanity has never before known. Probes would be launched into deep space, playing The Movie eternally, so that all races might know the power of this story.

Truly, it would be the best thing ever.

And, we’ve already got plans for a sequel.

Dunny Turns 30

Nadia got me an awesome cake, a nice new blue dress shirt shirt, a great watch, a pac-man t-shirt and a cool laptop bag. Lots of great loot from my great and wonderful girl.

Awesome Cake is Awesome

We had lunch together at [Insert Name of Restaurant Here], nice little Japanese place with great food, and later that night we had dinner with my folks at Tommy Bahamas, followed by watching The Vampires Apprentice – a surprisingly good movie.

The following morning we went to GameWorks with Rosenberg and Coldiron, and stayed there pretty much the whole day playing games, drinking beer, and harassing Sonic. We followed that up with a trip to The Yard House, for more beer, some shots, and good eats. Then we hit Borders, did some wandering and coffee drinking, and headed back home.

All told, it was a darn good birthday.

Firefly - 15 episodes of awesome

Recently, Nadia and I started watching Firefly… It’s her first time through the Verse, and probably my fourth. A great little show – if a bit hard to explain to new comers – it was cut down in its prime, and resurrected only long enough to give us an amazing movie.

But I’m not talking about the movie – not yet. We’ll wait until Nadia has had a chance to see it before we talk about it, eh? That’s right – No f’ing spoilers.

It’s been a lot of fun watching this with her. She’s gone from scrunching up her face in mild confusion (and possible displeasure) at the idea of a “western in space” to actively demanding we watch another few episodes. We are rapidly running out of episodes to watch (damn you Fox, and your cancelation of this fine show) and will quickly have the whole thing wrapped up.

It’s been fun getting another opinion on the show, another take on the characters and how they interact. It’s made me appreciate the show all over again.

I have no idea what to watch once we’re done with this. I’d say Middleman, but the DVD’s won’t be out for another month… and we need those subtitles, dang it.

As I said last week, I want to post at least one thing each day – I’m hoping this counts as my one thing for the day. It’s not an actual entry, I’ll admit that upfront. It’s more an appetizer, a menu of the entries that will be posted this week.

First up, tomorrow I’ll be posting my thoughts on the brand new Nintendo DSi. After giving one to Nadia for her birthday, I had to get one for myself. Was it worth it? Is it worth replacing a DS Phat/Lite with one of these? Find out my thoughts tomorrow!

Wednesday, a rant on the scourge of the English language- How “you know” has seemingly replaced “um” in most peoples spoken vocabulary.

Thursday, I’ll drop my thoughts on the Fallout 3 expansion “Broken Steel” – does the new “ending” fit the game better, and is the new content worth the ten bucks?

And, finally, Friday will be a nice review of the new Star Trek movie. I’ll be seeing the movie – along with Nadia, Rosenberg, Tabby and (maybe) Bighead and my Dad – so I’ll include a wide array of viewpoints on the movie. Everyone from the die-hard Trekkie to new-comers will be represented in this no-holds barred discussion on what is my most anticipated movie of the summer.

So, stick around this week – as you can see, there’s loads of stuff worth reading headed your way.

While we’re on the topic of words, I’m going to attempt to post at least one (1) blog entry every day this month. We’ll see how that goes.

library.dunny0.net is up and available for browsing. Created using Delicious Library for the Mac, this is the majority of my DVD collection, and a few of my games.

My hope is that, with this being available now on my iPhone, I’ll be better able to avoid buying any duplicates – something I haven’t, yet, had happen. Normally I error on the side of caution, and if I think that I might own a particular movie, I won’t pick it up until I get home and check. Several times I’ve been wrong, and have missed out on owning a few of the harder to find discs because of this.

The games thing I’m doing just because I can, and the gadgets bit I may pull… or may keep for insurance purposes. Not totally sure on that front yet.

The Livingroom

As you can see, the living room is filled with pricey electronic toys. There are also some stuffed toys, and – now – a picture to go along with them!

Some notes:

• The Kobayashi Maru is supposed to be an un-winnable situation – the whole point is to see how you deal with pressure and impending doom.
• The Picture of Nadia and me was taken at Minus 5 Ice Lounge
• The autograph is not to me – I picked the book up second hand. It’s in great shape though.
• Yes, that is an HD-DVD drive on top of the 360. I thought it would be a good idea.
  I was wrong.
• The Mario Bros arcade machine used to belong to my parents neighbors. They were just going to throw it away one day, and I quickly claimed it, fixed it up, and put it to good use.
• The mouse is for the Mac Mini. I’ve been considering replacing it with the Logitech DiNovo Mini. Any thoughts?
• The Hitch-hikers plushies are from the movie – One of the few good bits of additional material in that film.

Dunny0 - XBox Avatar

The Avatar on the left is me… As you can see, it’s a slightly more sophisticated version of the Mii. As of right now there are a few (three) games that will allow you to play as this little bugger. Creating one isn’t too difficult, and once done you can spend some time playing dress up too. Right now the clothing options are a bit sparse, but I’d expect that to change quickly as game devs jump on the bandwagon and offer branded shirts for your little guy to wear.

Netflix streaming is another neat toy added to the XBox’s repository of stuff it can do – and one that I expect to get a lot of use from. The interface is very Mac like, which is a plus, but you are unable to browse for content on it, which is a minus. You still must build your queue on your PC, and then the XBox will see it and allow you to play the movies – kind of cumbersome, really, but not too horrible I suppose. Works great for people who plan out their movie nights, but for those who just want to sit down, find a movie and watch it… Extra work. But, all considered, it’s a darn good service.

Finally, there’s the new UI – which I’m not really liking. It’s been re-done into some mash-up of Apples’ FrontRow and the PS3′s XMB. The whole thing is pretty, but messy. Some options, like friends list management, are not available from the normal menu, you gotta dig into the “other”, secondary set of menus to do that…

So far I’m not a huge fan – the old system worked just fine, this new one just seems like a hasty way to make aging hardware seem hip and current. I’m sure, over time, I’ll get used to it, but I still would rather they had allowed people to decide between using it and not using it.

But, I would like to at least get something down – so here goes. Might not be the best piece of prose, but at least it’s an attempt at chronicling the events of my Birthday Weekend.

We had more drinks, talked, played pool.

Then midnight came…

Thursday, November 6, 2008
The new waitress brought out a cake, with candles… For me. Nadia and Coldiron and Yanni sang happy birthday. I was surprised, taken off guard. Mostly.

Nadia gave me a great coat and a spiffy card. Coldiron gave me a Unicorn pen. Yanni brought chocolate. The cake, too, was chocolate with chocolate frosting, my name in green and little hearts or flowers in purple. Green and purple for Nadia and I… I still have some of it in my fridge. It is yuummy.

We all went our separate ways shortly after.

That Morning

Work kind of sucked. I was tired, I was ready to go home almost as soon as I got there. I did my best to just make it through the damn day.

My dad took Rosenberg and I to lunch, and later my co-workers sang to me, a ritual in this department. Off key, at the top of the lungs… A cacophony of comradery.

That night Nadia and I had dinner with my folks. She gave me a watch… I love watches. It was actually a total surprise – I loved it.

We had sushi.

Friday, November 7th

Slept in. Played some games… Saw Repo! with Nadia. It was a great movie.

Saturday

We painted at my parents house. It was… Okay. I had an asthma attack- a bad one. It kept bothering me for a few days, too… I just didn’t mention it much.

Nadia and Dad made fried Spam sammiches. They were yummy.

Sunday
Sushi again. I love raw fish.
With Nadias auntie and uncle.
It was fun. I enjoyed, because I was with her.

Had red bean ice cream, it was different.

Eventually I went over to Coldirons. We played and drank some White Russians and Mudslides then played Halo 3 until 4am.

Monday I slept. I watched Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter.
It was pretty good.
I missed Nadia.

Tuesday

Met Nadia for Lunch at the Fashion Show mall. Ate at an Italian place. She bought me a Dragonforce CD.

That night, Rosenberg, Coldiron and myself saw Dragonforce in concert. We sat in the VIP lounge, drinking free Mudslides.
It.
Was.
EPIC.

My Twitter feed could not contain the epicness, and my iPhone camera scored and EPIC PHAIL when trying to get any pictures.

Nadia, and the guys, and I, and Anna, had a late snack after the show. They had seen Mama Mia, it got out at the same time.

It was neat.
It was a grand weekend, five days off…

One more day to chronicle tho…

Wednesday
We saw Repo! again.
I am sure now that I like this movie, and parts of it have entered my daily working vocabulary.

There are pictures on the Facebooks, and .Mac Galleries… Eventually I’ll get around to collecting them all and posting them here… Or linking to them or something.

But, all said: It was great.

I just wish I had the words to describe it in full.
