The Synapses are Firing

This just just pure win.

Just finished up a bit of minor site tweaking, made a few changes to the general design (subtle changes, mostly coloring and font size) and added something I think is pretty spiffy: Avatar Support!

That’s right – if you post in the comments, you’ll be able to have your own avatar show up, thanks to… Well, I guess WordPress (the backend for my blog) and Gravatar (the guys who provide the back end for the avatars) merging. Basically, it’s something that was added into the 2.6 update, and I figured I’d go ahead and implement it. You don’t have to sign up or use it – mostly I just wanted to give another option to the three or four people who read and occasionally reply to my stuff.

Also of note: The built-in image gallery seems to be broken, so I’m going to continue hosting my images on my .Mac MobileMe account for the foreseeable future. I figure I’m paying for the service, and the media management there is a hell of a lot better than it is with the tools built into WordPress. So, for those of you who don’t like having to click away, I’m sorry but that’s just how things go.

Other than that, not much else to report at the moment. I should be sleeping right now, but I’m not – mainly because I’m just not all that tired. Maybe later I will be, but as yet not so much.

Here’s hoping!

Update
I’m a bit of an idiot: Turns out I had user registration turned off! Not that you need to register to comment (or have an avatar), but I figured I’d pop it back on just in case. Not sure why I had it turned off… I should maybe start making notes, possibly posting them somewhere I can find them easily later.

A Welcome Sign

Dunnys Log, Stardate… um… 10807.25…

Today I’m heading to the Star Trek Experience after work with a few friends of mine – Rosenberg, Rich and his crew… We’ll be doing the rides and having food (and booze) @ Quarks. I’m thinking it’ll be an awesome time, but I always have an awesome time @ STE, so I’m probably a horrible judge.

I do have a few things that I want (need) to take care of on this trip:

  • Get the recipe for the Warp Core Breach
  • Purchase at least one other color shirt
  • Look longingly at the refit Enterprise, consider buying it but don’t
  • Pick up a Spock and McCoy “action figure”

I’ll attempt to update this post with pictures and whatnot as events unfold – if I can’t get the iPhone to post here, I’ll link to a gallery at .Mac MobileMe specifically created for this.

Dunnys Log, Supplemental:
Turns out Rich had surgery on Wednesday, so he’s not going.
Rosenberg and I are still gonna check it out.
Huzzah?

Dunnys Log, Final Entry:
Here’s the pictures I promised. Not sure what else I can add to this at this time – it was a bit sad, the feeling that the place was going to be closed in a few weeks. I did my best to get the Warp Core, but the bartender assured me that he’d be posting a full set of instruction on the interwebz the night it closed, so that’s something I suppose.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.Tonight I watched a movie called The Machine Girl, and as you can tell by the poster to the left, I thought it was several flavors of awesome. It’s the kind of movie that shows why the idea of digital rentals is so damn good: I was kind of bored, had some spare currency on XBL, and figured I could find other, worse ways to spend four bucks.

Yeah, the rental cost me four bucks, but I just now did the math. Was it worth it? Oh hell yes it was! My only regret in this whole exchange is that I don’t get to keep a copy of this movie, that’s how much I enjoyed the damn thing. Minor plot spoilers to follow – but, frankly, this is not the kind of movie one would watch for it’s deep and twisty plot. Twisted, maybe, but not deep.

Except some of the wounds… (more…)

The Spore Creature Creator thinggie was leaked to the internets over the weekend…
The Windows version of it at least.

Well, a demo of the Windows version…

Regardless, this game seemed pretty nifty, so I did what any self-respecting gamer would do: I *gasp* installed Windows on my Mac, then tried out this early demo…

Below is a gallery of my first Creation… (more…)
