Entry 0253

27 May

Dear Hippies,

I’ve seen you bitching about the lack of charges being brought against BP, and I can’t help but wonder: What charges? What could they possibly be charged with?

I’m not saying that what is happening in the gulf isn’t horrible. It is, and they – as a company – should be held responsible in some fashion. But what that is, I’m unsure. But what laws have been broken here? Littering? Illegal dumping?

Do we have any laws to deal with this kind of thing?

More importantly – should we?

They should have to foot the entire bill for clean up – it’s their mess, and their fault. Let them pay for it that way. They should also be, in someway, answerable to those whose very lively hoods have been challenged by this event.

But brought up on charges? I don’t see how.

Not Actual Box Art

Not Actual Box Art

Recently, I purchased the game 3D Dot Game Heroes, for the Playstation 3. It’s billed as a love note the the 8bit adventure games of yore, and that’s probably the best description that can be had for the game.

The plot is straight out of The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past: A long time ago, there was a big bad guy who did big bad things. Six smart, wise guys got together, and trapped him in a parallel world of his own creation a glowing Orb. Some wizard has sucked up to the king, stolen the Orb, and plans on unleashing the power of the Big Bad. It’s up to you, who just happens to be the direct descendant of the Previous Hero, to save the world.

Sound familiar? Sages are called Scholars, Dungeons are Temples, but otherwise it’s all very much in line with what we know and love. Which, in my opinion, is a great thing. Read the rest of this entry »

10 May

Wow, it’s May already.
A full third of the way through May, too.

Whoops!

Lots of stuff has happened recently – we went to Death Valley, and took loads and loads of pictures. Nadia had a birthday (where she turned twenty seventwenty six), then officially got her Masters.

Because of the graduation ceremony, her folks have been in town for the past 10 days, and we’ve been spending time with them. Even did the first (and then second) Meeting of the Parents, which was enjoyable. Have had several good, fun dinners and some nice times since they have been here.

Work is, well, work – still surrounded by folks doing silly things and asking for the impossible – and I’m stuck trying to pull a Scotty just to please them. Mostly, I’ve been able to get by, but it’s getting more frustrating daily.

There’s just been a lot going on, and not much time to write.

Hopefully that will change soon.

22 Apr

Tomorrow Nadia and I are going to hit the road and spend the weekend in Death Valley National Park.

It’s our second trip up there – our previous trip was documented in this very blog. I’d link to the entry, but I’m feeling a bit lazy right now.

Anyway, tomorrow we head out bright and early, and should reach Beatty by lunch. We are going to stay at a neat little place called the Atomic Inn – sounds ultra retro and just awesome. Of course, I will take as many pictures as my battery will allow, and will do a full update when we return home.

I don’t plan on doing much blogging while we are there – it is a vacation after all. But if I will at least tweet as service allows.
